To warn him of his fate. He paused but an instant And seemed to hesitate.
14     He rolled the log about half way off
When the landing broke like glass; As quick as thought he disappeared Into the rolling mass.
15     Quickly they rolled the logs
From off his mangled form. The birds were singing sweetly And the sun shone bright and warm.
16     Strong men knelt down beside him there,
Their grief could not command; Unbidden tears burned from their eyes And fell down in the sand.
17     Gently they bore him,
Gently laid him on the ground Beneath a shady tree that grew Near by the pearling stream.
18     The bubbling sparkling waters
Stealing o'er its sandy bed Seemed to murmur softly and sweetly A farewell to the dead.
19     The remains were buried
By the orders of K. P. A funeral more attended, you would Scarcely ever see.
